3Ci is dedicated to providing technical support to local authorities, enabling the development of bankable Net Zero projects through our innovative online learning offerings. In partnership with Apolitical, we aim to assess and meet the online learning needs of local authorities. This collaboration will help determine the most effective ways to support local authorities in ensuring bankable projects are ready for implementation, shaping the future online learning platform envisioned by the National Technical Assistance Facility. Countries around the world have committed to taking action to address climate change — one of the defining challenges of our time.

Climate finance is at the heart of that action. We can’t get far without it. But the gaps between the finance needed and the finance currently available are wide, and getting wider.

Governments can close these gaps. In this course, developed with experts from the University of Oxford, you’ll gain the knowledge and tools to help get climate finance flowing.

A Comprehensive Introduction to Climate Finance: Understanding, Challenges, Opportunities, and Practical Applications

The Climate Finance course is a partnership between Apolitical and the University of Oxford.  

Course Highlights: 

  • Introducing Climate Finance: Learn the basics of climate finance, its importance, and key concepts through a combination of readings, videos, and activities. 
  • Understanding the Climate Finance Landscape: Gain a comprehensive overview of the climate finance landscape, including definitions, practical applications, and contextual activities.
  • Overcoming Challenges: Explore the major challenges in and strategies to address these obstacles effectively.
  • Exploring Opportunities: Identify and evaluate various opportunities within this sector to promote sustainable investments.
  • Climate Finance and You: Understand the personal and professional implications of climate finance and how to apply this knowledge in your own context.

This year, participants will have the opportunity to engage in two special events designed to enhance the learning experience: 

  • Mid-Course Masterclass: Gain deeper insights and interact with experts in a mandatory live, interactive session. 
  • End-of-Course Sharing Lesson: Share your experiences and learnings with peers, fostering a community of practice and collaboration. 

By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

Understand what climate finance is and why it’s key in the transition to net zero.

Explain what’s holding climate finance back and how governments can overcome these obstacles.

Advocate for climate finance in your area of work to build resilience, finance the transition to net zero and scale up global climate finance flows.

Establish appropriate governance frameworks for implementing clean energy solutions across various regions.

Course Details

To apply for the ‘Introduction to the ‘Climate Finance’ course, you will need to complete an application form. Due to limited availability and to ensure a diverse cohort of applicants, we will evaluate applications and select applicants based on the course’s alignment with their day-to-day responsibilities and geographic location to achieve regional representation across across the UK. Please note that only public sector applicants are eligible.

We are offering two courses simultaneously. While you have the option to apply for both, we recommend choosing either one course or indicating your preference in application to ensure you get the most out of your learning experience. Each course has 25 spaces available.
